Astrology Zone and Susan Miller

Predictive astrology needs to be written more neutrally like weather prediction. We predict the weather to know when it will rain and to get in out of the worst of it and to help us PLAN our day. We don't do it to say "Rain is Bad and Sunshine is Good and you should lock yourself away on rainy days, cry in your coffee and wait for the Sunshine to return."

A pet peeve of mine is that Mercury goes Retrograde for around 3 weeks, three or four times a year and astrologers ROUTINELY advise people to BUY NOTHING -- especially electronics -- and DO NOTHING and SIGN NO CONTRACTS and START NOTHING under Mercury Retrograde.
That links to Astrology Zone because it's about the completely hysterical and ridiculous bullshit Susan Miller writes about BE SCARED, BE VERY SCARED because Mercury is going retrograde AND she recommends that you give it a buffer on both sides of the retrograde period just to be safe.

I believe she was reading my astrological writing years ago and modifying her shit advice site based on my opinions without giving me credit, but I can't prove that. Most likely, she only ever so slightly tweaked her garbage writing.

I read her atrocious predictive Sun Sign astrology crap for some years while deathly ill, but only on days when I was too sick to do anything else. I was looking for crumbs of useful information in the mountains of crap, like what degree X thing happened at, which she usually didn't mention.

I typically read it for my Rising Sign, not my Sun Sign, because she's an idiot who talks like you can just assume your Sun Sign is the first house and bases ALL her predictions on the house that would correlate to this assumption, so reading it for my Rising Sign instead of my Sun Sign got me less extremely eye roll worthy predictions.

Her site is rife with assuming you want to hear what day you will "win the lottery without buying a ticket" or randomly meet your TRUE LOVE at a coffee shop, the romance version of winning the lottery without buying a ticket. Because in her deranged mind, financial success and relationships happen because ASTROLOGY and not because people WORKED at it.

I'm less deathly ill than I used to be and I probably started writing regularly on this site as an astrology site some months after I stopped wasting my time on her crap writing because I was no longer brain damaged enough to find it tolerable to spend my time listening to her ideas about how life worked and no longer desperately needed to reassure myself the Sun will come out tomorrow.

These days, if I am looking up astrological information at all, I'm typically looking at This Week in Astrology on Cafeastrology.com because it contains a chart with exact positions, so it matters less whether or not I care to read their interpretations. I can find exact degrees for things.

Or I sometimes search for the eclipses for this year.

If things are unexpectedly bumpy, I like looking for:

1. Eclipses
2. Planets changing signs
3. Planets changing direction (going retrograde or going direct)

I primarily used my natal astrological chart as a an advanced Rorschach test for trying to figure myself out. I did do some predictive stuff when I had the tools to run scenarios and concluded my closeness to my sister wouldn't persist and our paths would diverge and chose to not take it personally when we did grow apart.

I'm not really ready to try to figure out how to "do" astrology more sensibly and I'm very busy with a long list of other priorities.

I still sometimes look up the Sun position of men making eyes at me because that's moderately useful information. But overall, I just mostly don't do astrology anymore.

Susan Miller's Wikipedia page says she predicted 2020 would "be a great year, and it will be a prosperous year". And I don't know how that wasn't a career ender, given that was the year of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

If you are into astrology, cool. I was for a long time. But as the saying goes: Ninety percent of everything is crap.

Be careful what you do with your interest in astrology and mindful that astrological advice is only as wise as the person giving it. There's no magic in using the stars to give advice.

You either have something useful to say to people or you don't and astrologers trend towards being people who need income NOW and can't be bothered to get a degree in psychology or whatever, for the same reason I once considered trying to make a living at it:

There's no governing board of astrology, no license required. A professional astrologer is someone who manages to get paid for doing astrology and there's no other gatekeeping involved.
