Your House of Style

Your First House is your House of Style. It rules appearance and its sign, bodies within it and other factors related to your Rising Sign and the First House can help you figure out your best looks.

So you want to look at your Rising Sign, any info related to it, where its ruler is found in your chart and any planets with Exact aspects (within one degree of exact) or secondarily fairly strong aspects (within three to five degrees of exact) to your Ascendant.

I also recommend you look up colors associated with every sign in which you have a planet or other heavenly body. Your strongest colors will be associated with your Rising Sign, Sun and Moon but secondary colors will be described by other placements.

I don't typically wear watery blues, greens and purples as my main color, but I have one planet in every water sign and I do surprisingly well in a wide variety of watery colors as a secondary color.

The Rising Sign changes signs every two hours, because twenty-four hours divided by twelve is two. For this reason, it's important to have an accurate chart based on your exact time and place of birth.

If you don't have that, some professional astrologers can rectify your natal chart using important life events for which you can supply those details, such as your wedding.

My study of astrology was primarily Western astrology, only briefly touching on Chinese astrology and Arabic parts. I preferentially used the Placidus House System which varies the size of houses as you move further from the equator, not an equal house system.

I used astrology to help me sort my life, sort of like an advanced Rorschach test. I also used it to help me sort my wardrobe.
I defy every color typing system I have ever run across. Rest assured if some particular typing system doesn't work for you, I am sympathetic.
No color system works for me, but my astrological chart fits my colors. So, weirdly, I found astrology helpful for sorting out my wardrobe, of all things.
I've spent a lot of years trying to figure out how to turn my existing skill set into an adequate income. I've made several stabs at figuring out how to make a few bucks via Internet using astrology.

I briefly had a site called Your Star Style for trying to sell fashion advice based on your horoscope. It never gelled and I moved those posts here and shut it down when I began writing in earnest about wanting to establish a clothing line.

This site will make no effort to be comprehensive. If you aren't finding what you need here, search elsewhere for colors and other information associated with astrological elements.

The Math

What critics of astrology don't seem to know is that casting a chart by hand requires significant MATH ability. I used to have probably two shelves worth of astrology books, one of which was an expensive ephemerides. This is a thick book of charts listing the location of every heavenly body it covers once or twice a DAY. When I cast my first chart -- MINE -- by hand in my teens, it took me several HOURS to do the interpolation. I could do that because I was the third strongest math student in my graduating high school class. I can say with confidence that I was number three because I had four years of college equivalent math classes from eighth through eleventh grades and my senior year I was one of THREE students invited to attend a special ZERO hour class to continue my math education. Japan -- A Funny Little Hypothesis

My understanding is that most Japanese do not believe in Western astrology and, yet, it's a common topic of discussion. They routinely tell people what their Sun sign is in casual conversation. I think most likely what is going on there is that they don't find it threatening because they don't take it seriously, so it's a good topic for making small talk, and it also solves a somewhat unique social challenge for them. In Japanese language and culture, my understanding is you address people using honorifics on a routine basis and there is a long list of honorifics to choose from. Which one is correct depends in part on which of you is older. All well, fine and good except that it's rude to ask someone their age or birth date.
